This wasn't such a way-out suggestion as I did a few experiments using my
animation lightbox to illuminate the slides on the surface of my scanner -
it very nearly worked you know!

Very useful to know. However, as I intend to scan a few hundred slides it is
obviously going to be cost effective for me to purchase the Epson scanner
and slide hood.
